Chapter 1

01. Possessing an Insignificant Villain

Beep!

“Gasp!” I woke up after hearing a loud mechanical sound.

Fuck, that surprised me.

I turned my head reflexively. Then, a big and strangely-shaped machine which had just let out a loud noise emitted a low beeping sound.

Beep, Beep, Beep…

Is this a new alarm clock?

I don’t remember buying anything like that.

I glanced at the huge machine, while pressing my throbbing head. The hard, square machine had a long string, and the string attached…

“Crazy! What is this?”

The string on the machine was attached to my body. I opened my eyes wide at the string hanging on my chest.

“What’s this? Ugh.”

I felt a splitting headache as  I took off the string. I lowered my head. ‘Beep–’, the sound kept ringing in my ears.

“Ugh, fuck.”

After waiting for my headache to subside, I finally raised my head. My forehead, wet with sweat, bothered me. I looked around for something to wipe it off and my body suddenly stiffened.

“…Where is this?”

I was amazed by the room that I had never seen before. The room was quite spacious and clean. Very different from my small room, which looks like a pigsty. Wallpaper and furniture were monotonous, neat and tidy. I looked nervously around the empty room.

“Is this place someone’s room?”

I went to many unfamiliar places for work, but I couldn’t believe this  room belonged to someone from the moment I opened my eyes. I suddenly got goosebumps.

Moreover, there was a strange machine connected to my chest and most importantly, I was topless. I couldn’t help but grit my teeth at the person who made me look like this.

I wandered around the room looking for clothes to wear. Then I stopped moving when I saw a full-length mirror near me.

“Wha–?!” A pale-looking man in the mirror looked at me and was appalled.

His small and pale white face was extremely good-looking. I would have thought he was an idol if I saw him passing by. His wide eyes were like that of a deer’s, and his small beautiful lips were not as pale as his face, but it still caught my eye.

He had a skinny body, but he still had some well defined muscles and was quite handsome. I kept looking at the man in the mirror, with this ghostly face. 

After some time I concluded that this man in the mirror was me. I was dumbfounded and confused, but when I pinched my cheeks it wasn’t a dream.

“Abs… My abs…” I muttered in vain while stroking my flat stomach. 

Initially, my body was not muscular. I worked out hard because there were so many people with good body shape around me, but I was not gaining as much muscle as I had wanted. However, after working hard I  got shredded abs, though not by much. Uhuhuk, my abs, there’s nothing there.

“Damn it, who the fuck is this bastard…” I muttered in annoyance and looked around. 

I approached the desk while wearing a  t-shirt. As if to show the personality of the owner of the body, a notebook, pen, wallet, and cell phone were placed on a neatly arranged desk.

I grabbed the wallet first. To find out who the owner of this body was, I had to start with identification. I opened a black leather wallet and saw several crisp bills and credit cards.

As I continued to search, I saw several  cards. I thought it was an ID card and driver’s licence, but one of them had a strange colour.

“Hunter… licence?”

Was this bastard an otaku1? On the green ID card, the word “hunter’s licence” was written.

Hunter? I couldn’t believe that he’s a hunter. 

Don’t tell me it’s the hunter, I think it is.

I smirked at the thought, but at the back of  it was information I couldn’t ignore.

For a moment, the contents of a novel flashed through my head. A male-oriented novel that kept me on my phone until bedtime. My hands trembled as I shuddered and stared at the hunter’s licence in disbelief.

As the title suggests, it was a novel where the protagonist was sucked into a gate and barely returned, thus becoming the only SS-class hunter in the world and was also unrivalled.

I was bored so I read the free chapters available, that is, until I binge read all night paying for them. The author’s writing skills were unbelievably good. While smiling happily remembering the episode I read last night, I looked at the licence again with a serious look.

It’s possible that this licence was fake… Someone more crazy about novels than I am could think of these cards as mere merchandise. But currently I thought it didn’t make sense. If that’s the case, I would have had a card2 of the main character, Kang Yoo Hyun, and not of this  insignificant villain bastard.

Han Yi Jin was a villain in the early stages of the novel. When the main character Kang Yoo Hyun returned from the gate and was in the spotlight, he played the role of a loser which made him a pathetic villain.

I was in a state of disbelief, and to think it was me now. When I read the novel, I was immersed in the main character, so when Han Yi Jin made a mistake I was just angry and annoyed. But when Kang Yoo Hyun beat him and he died in an accident, it was sad.

I threw the hunter’s licence on the desk. At least if I couldn’t be the main character, I could be a supporting character who helped the main character or an ordinary extra, but Han Yi Jin? A villain bastard with B-rank ability who was beaten to death by the main character?

It was clear that God had forsaken me. My life before I possessed was not smooth, but how could He put me through yet another ordeal like this?

I made up my mind and packed my stuff quickly. Actually, I wasn’t sure where Han Yi-jin’s belongings were so I just took his wallet and cell phone.

I didn’t know how far this book had progressed, but seeing Han Yi Jin alive and well like this it must be the beginning of the story. That would give him enough time to escape.

I should never meet the protagonist.  Even if I’ve changed inside and I haven’t done anything bad, the main character won’t stay still when he meets me, who is a villain.

The Loki Guild that Han Yi Jin resided in was a guild affiliated with the Villain Union.  Here, Han Yi Jin’s room must be in one of the branches of the Loki Guild. So being here alone is dangerous for me. After organising my thoughts quickly, I approached and opened the door.

“Where are you going?”

When I opened the door, the man leaning against the opposite wall slowly approached.

He was a man with flashy pink hair. The clothes he wore were also unusual, and there were so many fluorescent colours that it dazzled me. I looked at the piercings dangling from his ears as he asked.

The man opened his eyes wide as if surprised by my question. Then he looked at me with a smirk and opened his mouth.

“Did you eat something wrong? What’s wrong with you?”

He seemed to know me very well, or rather Han Yi Jin. I frowned at his intense pink hair as if it was piercing my eyes. That wasn’t a common hair colour. Even though this was a fantasy world, the hair colour  was similar to my original world because of the modern setting.

“…Eden?”

His unique name makes it easier to remember. Like Han Yi Jin, he was a member of the Loki Guild, but halfway through the story he betrayed the guild leader and went to the main character.

Eden, A-rank, a talented person from Loki Guild.

He gently closed his eyes and smiled like a fox, and put his hand on my shoulder. Was Han Yi Jin close to this guy? It didn’t  look like that in the novel.

Of course, Han Yijin disappeared quickly as an attention whore in the beginning, so the relationships he had weren’t very well described. Eden then appeared and took over the role of the villain, but he was treated very differently.

Unlike the dim-witted Han Yi Jin, he was cunning and was capable of escaping any difficult situation. Although it was a bit of a bad omen when he smirked and smiled at the protagonist, he was a character who showed a good heart through a series of events and drew the readers’ good impressions of him.

They both started out as villains, though. The readers are too much.

I frowned and glared at Eden.

“Get your hands off me.”

“Aing~3, you’re mean.” 

The way he speaks is kinda…..?

I brushed his hand off and asked harshly. “Why are you here?”

“Me?”

Then Eden smiled doubtfully, as if to say, “Ask me whatever you want.”

There seemed to be something between the two that I didn’t know about. I shouldn’t have asked him thoughtlessly.

I gulped as I was nervous, then he tilted his head and looked at me.

“Aren’t you a little strange today?”

“Me?”

For some reason, a warning signal rang in my head that I would be in big trouble if I confronted the situation in a cliché manner such as I wasn’t Han Yi Jin or that I had lost my memories.

I hadn’t just possessed an ordinary character. A villain was a villain, even if it was an insignificant villain. Loki’s Guild was also filled with villains who threatened the main character.

The same was true for Eden, who was in front of him. He wasn’t an S-class, but he was still an A-class, and an advanced one at that, so he was on par with a regular S-class.

Showing weakness in front of such a guy? It’s the same as suicide.
